To provide proper nutrition to pregnant mothers and children, ‘Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana’ has been launched in Rajasthan. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot inaugurated the scheme through video conferencing. On the occasion of its launch, two beneficiaries each from the four districts were given cheques of Rs 1000 each as the first installment of this scheme. More than 77 thousand women are expected to be benefitted from this scheme every year. Beneficiary women will get Rs 6000 in five phases. During the programme, the Chief Minister said that it is an important step taken by the state government towards women empowerment. If a pregnant woman gets adequate nutrition, then the baby will also be born healthy. The CM said that this imperative scheme of the state government will not only reduce malnutrition in mothers and children but will also increase awareness among the people in regard to the importance of mother’s health and her nutrition level for the proper development of the child. Presently, it has been started in the four most backward TSP districts of the state i.e. Udaipur, Banswara, Dungarpur and Pratapgarh, based on the rankings of Mother & Child Nutrition indicators. Soon, the state government will implement this scheme in the whole state of Rajasthan including Saharia-dominated Baran district.
